For portable applications, adhesive pads can be used to create a flat, repeatable target for a magnet mounted sensor. Not all machine casings are magnetically attractive, so CTC’s adhesive vibration test point mounting pads have enough iron in them to attract a magnet. Additionally, repeatability is a primary concern when taking portable measurements. Utilizing a permanently mounted adhesive target ensures that the magnet is mounted in the same spot every time a reading is taken.
Adhesive pads are often used for permanent mount applications when it is either not safe to tap into the machine at the desired location, or if a perfectly flat surface cannot be achieved for stud mounting. Regardless of whether or not the application is portable or permanent, it is recommended that a spot face tool be used to grind off any paint and create as flat of a surface as possible prior to applying epoxy and the pad.
